I created this website because I needed to be able to demonstrate my abilities as a web developer. But I also wanted to make a website that was more than just a portfolio. I wanted a site that I could keep adding to and update regularly, so that it wasn't just another static, boring portfolio site on the net.
The previous version of this site was set up purely to help me in finding a job, but once I'd built it, I realised that I wanted more from the site. So I redesigned the site to give it a fresher look compared to what it had before, but made sure that I kept some of the cool features that the previous version had.
So I've kept most of the content the same (all the boring CV and portfolio stuff) but thought I'd chuck in a blog for good measure. That way I can keep people informed about what I've been up to, even if I won't be seeing them for a while.
If anyone uses any of the currently popular social networking sites, you can add my blog to your favourites on those sites. The links are provided below.
These links are also provided on the blog itself. To add the link to your chosen social bookmarking site, simply click on the link.
If any of the above links no longer work, please let me know instead of leaving me looking like a doofus, and I'll try and fix it. As it happens, I'm not a member of any of these sites, so I wouldn't know if the links work or not. Still, it's the thought that counts...
For anyone who cares, there was a fair amount of thought and effort that went into the actual coding of the website. Most of the pages within this site are static pages that I update manually, but some pages (such as the blog pages) are dynamic pages, aquiring information from external sources.
This website adheres to the XHTML 1.0 Strict document type, which is the strictest of all the document types. XHTML Strict enforces the greatest number of rules on the developer in order to help them create the most standards-compliant website possible. While this has a number of advantages (such as helping to move your website up in a SERP), it can be much harder to create a website that looks and acts like many of the non-standards-compliant websites that you see every day on the internet.
Many of these websites look nice but the businesses and individuals to whom these websites belong are often unaware that the way in which a website is constructed is often more important for gaining new visitors than the way the site looks. For businesses, this is a major factor, because the more visitors they have to their website, the more profit they are likely to make.
There are a number of other factors that have been taken into consideration while designing this website. Some users of the internet may be somewhat visually impaired (meaning that they may be unable to read some of the text on the website), or they may be slightly colour-blind.
This can lead to a lot of frustration on the users part, and so this website has been created with two special features. One is the ability to adjust the text size at any time, and the other is the ability to change the colour scheme of the website. This means that for those users who are long-sighted, they can increase the text size to make it much more readable, and for those who may be colour-blind, they can switch the colour scheme of the website to one that won't give them any difficulties in viewing the site. The majority of the website is displayed in white and grey, but there are subtle colours that highlight certain aspects of the page.
